Gymnocidaris was a spiny sea urchin that lived during the Jurassic period. They had distinctive club-shaped spines that were used to protect from predators and to help wedge themselves into tight spaces to hide. They fed on microalgae and small, slow moving invertebrates like sponges or bryozoans.
